Job Title: HMI/SCADA Principal Architect

The job
The HMI/SCADA Architect is responsible for defining the technical architecture and engineering standards for AVEVA’s HMI/SCADA solutions. Combining deep expertise in industrial automation, data modeling, and modern web technologies, this role drives scalable system design, engineering efficiency, and successful project delivery. You will work closely with Product, Development, and System Integrator teams to deliver high-quality solutions while shaping the future technical direction of our HMI/SCADA platform.
Key responsibilities
Define the overall architecture and technical roadmap for HMI/SCADA solutions.
Lead the end-to-end engineering design process, including modeling, configuration, deployment, and operational architecture.
Design scalable engineering data models and reusable frameworks to improve configurability and project efficiency.
Develop and implement end-to-end technical solutions, ensuring reliable and efficient front-end and back-end integration.
Collaborate with Product, Development, and System Integrator teams to support the delivery of large-scale industrial projects and promote DevOps practices.
Essential requirements
Bachelor’s degree or above in Automation, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong expertise in HMI/SCADA systems, particularly engineering workflows such as tag modeling, visualization configuration, and data flow design.
Strong expertise in C/C++ programming and knowledge in at least one modern front-end framework.
Solid experience in engineering data modeling, including object models, template design, and hierarchical structures.
Familiarity with DevOps concepts and tools, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment practices.
Desired skills and competencies
Strong architectural thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design scalable and maintainable industrial software solutions.
Curiosity and innovation mindset, with experience in Industrial IoT, Digital Twin, or industrial data platform technologies.
Collaborative approach and ability to build trust across cross-functional teams and external partners.
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA and MQTT, and experience with cross-platform architectures spanning web and industrial environments.
