Join a team where your expertise drives diagnosis, innovation, and teaching. As a key member of our clinical laboratory, you will consistently and accurately perform a wide range of routine and complex procedures in the Histology Laboratory in order to provide quality diagnostic slides to the Pathologists.
What you will do:
Receives tissue specimens, identifies same according to established coding scheme and logs specimens, recording time, date, type, and a variety of patient identification information.
Dehydrates tissue samples and clears same by utilizing specified liquid reagents in order to render sample transparent.
Cuts and prepares sections of specimens for staining using a variety of microtome knives. Stains tissue by selecting appropriate stains and embedding material in order to reveal tissue elements required for diagnosis.
Labels slides and mounts same on microscope for examination to ensure results are satisfactory for technologist and Pathologist review and interpretation.
Prepares laboratory solutions and reagents according to established procedures and precise formulae in order to maintain adequate quantities to carry out assignments.
Catalogues and files slides and maintains records of activities performed.
Documents and evaluates results of quality control. Implements and documents corrective action. Records procedures that need to be repeated and explains the reason for the rejection to aid in trouble- shooting and documentation process. Performs maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. Follows up on all problems including calling Tech. Service when necessary. Takes steps to provide services in an acceptable time frame.
Researches new technologies, participate in proficiency testing, provides supervisory leadership within the Department as required. Maintains competency associated with the profession of Medical Technologist.
Write and revise Standard Operating Procedure (SOPS) in compliance with NCCLS requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology (HTL) program OR a bachelors degree in Biology or at least 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours of chemistry and biology, and one year full-time acceptable experience in histopathology under the supervision of an appropriately certified medical scientist.
Has passed both sections of the HTL certification examination offered by the ASCP. Any Certified MT who is currently working in a Certified HTL position at Life Laboratories will be allowed to continue in their position and will be evaluated as a Certified HTL.
Note For New Hires: - Non-certified HTL: Must be eligible to sit for certification examination offered by the ASCP and must successfully pass it within one year of hire.
Pay Range: $30.10 - $48.15
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
