Per Diem at Voorhees
Processes surgical and autopsy specimens. Prepares microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes. Performs diagnostic testing including special stains and Immunohistochemistry. Examines slides microscopically to ensure preparation meets laboratory quality requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
Embeds tissue samples in paraffin correctly identifying type of tissue as well as normal and abnormal tissue components.
Cuts tissue in ultra thin sections modifying technique based on tissue type.
Performs routine, special and Immunohistochemical staining procedures. Understands the basic principles of immunology as they relate to problem solving and unexpected test results
Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special processing, selects correct protocol based on physician orders. Correlates laboratory tests to disease processes and understands basic physiology required to recognize appropriate test selection.
Performs, reviews, and documents quality control according to established policies and procedures. Evaluates data and investigates problems. Takes corrective action according to predetermined criteria or refers problem to the appropriate manager.
Position Qualifications Required
Experience Required:
1 year of full time histology experience in an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.
Required Education:
Baccalaureate (BS) or Associate's (AS) degree with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
Graduation from an approved Histotechnology Program or HT (ASCP) certification required or registry eligible.
