Position Overview
The Holton-Arms Middle School History Teacher is a dynamic educator dedicated to fostering global competence and historical literacy in our students. They are responsible for designing and facilitating a student-centered curriculum focused on Latin American and African history, geography, and culture (7th grade) and United States history and government (8th grade). The ideal candidate is an educator who genuinely enjoys working with middle school students and understands the developmental needs of early adolescence. They bring energy, flexibility, humor, and patience to their teaching and thrive in a highly collaborative culture where colleagues plan together, share ideas openly, and support one another. Beyond the classroom, expectations include fulfilling assigned duties as required, communicating effectively with students and parents, and working collaboratively with other teachers in your department and division, as well as with administrators. Middle School teachers are also expected to advise a group of 10-12 students, facilitate a club, proctor a study hall, and support the day to day experience of middle school students. Teachers serve as advisors, mentors, and role models responsible for preserving a positive learning environment, one where teachers are committed to all of our students’ well-being, academic excellence, and supporting our Global Education and Diversity institutional priorities.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in History, education, or a related humanities field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: 3 to 5 years of successful teaching or teaching-related experience, specifically within a middle school environment. Deep understanding of the academic, social, and emotional developmental needs of this age group.
Collaborative Practice: Proven ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment, including actively contributing to curriculum design, sharing pedagogical ideas, and partnering with colleagues in support of students and the broader school community.
Pedagogical Skill: Demonstrated skill in designing engaging, student-centered learning experiences that promote critical thinking, discussion, and inquiry. Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and thoughtful integration of educational technology to deepen learning.
Student Connection: Brings warmth, humor, flexibility, and empathy to the classroom. Builds strong relationships with students and creates a supportive environment that balances high expectations with care.
Commitment to DEIB: Demonstrated understanding of how systems of power and privilege shape historical narratives, along with a commitment to cultivating an equitable and inclusive classroom and community.

Compensation and Benefits
The average salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Early career teachers are initially compensated less than the listed salary range and highly experienced teachers are compensated more than the listed salary range. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorship and significant commitments outside of the classroom.
