The Histology Technologist is responsible for daily specimen processing in the histology laboratory. Communicates with staff physicians and other staff employees regarding patient specimens. Works with management personnel to ensure efficient and technically correct systems and procedures in the histology laboratory that includes QA/QC of reagents, instrumentation, proficiency testing, etc.
Processes patient specimens to include grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, staining (routine and special), and immunoperoxidase staining.
Reviews the daily technical systems for assurance of quality and efficiency.
Assures adherence to laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.
Assures instruments and reagents are within quality parameters.
Participates in laboratory research and development projects as needed and as time permits.
Responsible for maintaining personal continuing education requirements in the area of Histology.
Responsible for inventory and ordering of supplies.
Stays informed on all company policies and procedures and should demonstrate interest in areas related to laboratory operations.
Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patient rights, safety, billing, human resources and collections. Adhere to all AON and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
Keep work area and records in a neat and orderly manner.
Maintain all company equipment in a safe and working order.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Lab, Chemistry, Biology or related field and successful completion of an accredited Histology Training program.
Experience may be substituted for education as described by State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel Statutes.
Previous Experience
5 years clinical lab/histology experience preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
A State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license (Histology Technologist) or Clinical Laboratory Supervisor license (Histology Supervisor) is required.

Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from a variety of stakeholders and sites.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.
