Job Description
Under minimal supervision, prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.
- Leads the preparation of tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.
- Gross, process, embed, cut, and stain surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
- Performs complex histologic procedures and analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
- Performs, records and analyzes data in order to make judgments.
- Maintains instruments, utilizing established protocols.
- Follows established policies and procedures.
- Leads research and develops protocols with supervision.
- Trains associate and intermediate technicians.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment.
- Recent experience working with a wide variety of tissues in a laboratory or clinical setting.
- Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) years of histological experience is required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
