Job Description

Family Central is looking to hire a part-time (24 hours/week) HIPPY Home Visitor to provide one-on-one curriculum instruction with parents in their homes. This is a great opportunity for somebody that loves working with children (ages 2-5 years old) and families and is familiar with services offered in Miami-Dade County.

ABOUT THE HIPPY PROGRAM

HIPPY is a structured, home-based model focused on parent-child centered learning designed to remove barriers and to reach low income families with limited education to become their child's first teacher. Through HIPPY, parents not only become actively involved in the lives of their children, but they also assist their children to reach their full potential as they prepare to enter school.

As a HIPPY Home Visitor you will supply weekly HIPPY activity packets and follow the program method of instruction with the parent or caregiver that is designed to strengthen their children's cognitive skills, early literacy skills, social/emotional and physical development.

The Home Visitor also provides a broad range of services including recruiting families with 3 and 4-year-old children, developing and maintaining linkages with various community resources, and is a role model and advocate for families and children. Specific responsibilities may also include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide services for HIPPY participants (parent and child) in the home, at group meetings, and special events.
  • Provides interim-services to participants, who may otherwise have to be inactive, during periods of staff recruitment.
  • Complete case documentation and submit program measurement tools at required trigger points. Complete and submit weekly billing documentation.
  • Participates in all HIPPY sponsored activities.

Skills/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, and one (1) year of experience working with children and families required. Being actively enrolled or having completed a HIPPY program may substitute for six (6) months of experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English or Creole/English strongly preferred.
  • Must be computer literate and have the ability to complete documents in Microsoft Word.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, time management and case management skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed in order to meet the needs of the children and families served.
  • Must have transportation and be willing to visit clients in their homes. Valid Florida Driver's License with full access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage (proof of insurance is required).
