About the Program

HIPPY (Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters) is a free, two-year, home-based early childhood learning program that empowers parents and carers to be their child’s first teacher. The objective of HIPPY are to:

· Provide a child with a structured education-focused early learning program at home.

· Improve children’s preparedness for school and strengthen school participation.

· Build the confidence and skills of parents and carers to create a positive home learning environment.

· Support employment and community leadership opportunities for HIPPY coordinators, home tutors and parents.

· Strengthen communities.

In the first year of HIPPY, families learn skills to get their children ready for school. In the second year, parents learn more about supporting their children’s learning and development at school and at home.

This position in located within our Children and Family Centre, which provides integrated service delivery, combining a range of services and disciplines to create a comprehensive and coherent service delivery system that benefits families with young children within our community. We aim to provide comprehensive, locally responsive, and connected services that support children’s and parent’s wellbeing, enhance positive childhood leaning and development, and build parenting capacity through connecting existing early childhood, maternal and child health, and family support services, increasing participation of First Nations children, pregnant women, and families and better preparing our First Nations children to transition to school.

The HIPPY Coordinator is required to:

· Develop and implement the HIPPY program, ensuring the program meets the requirements of the service agreement

· Maintain an appropriate and effective administration system, including regular reporting

· Provide support, supervision and training to HIPPY tutors.

About You

You a compassionate, optimistic individual wanting to make a difference in people’s lives especially our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and also have the following:

· Experience in working in an early childhood service or system and strong foundations in early childhood development and/or early intervention programs for children and their families.

· Strong administrative, organisational and time management skills.

Practical Requirements

· Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential

· Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, COVID19 and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment.

· Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check.

· Current CPR and First Aid Certificate

· Current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card (note a current Blue Card will be required prior to commencement)
