The HIM Processing Specialist prepares documents for scanning into the electronic medical record system. The Technician scans and indexes documents to the appropriate document type in the document imaging system to be integrated into the electronic health record (EHR).

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
Determines document types within the document imaging application to ensure the accuracy of the medical record and provide consistency and standardization in the location of documents in the electronic health record for clinicians and end users; Reviews documents for processing to ensure patient identification is present on document; escalates to manager if document is unable to be processed for follow up with clinical department.
Audits medical record documentation steps taken outside of HIM processing to improve record integrity. Identifies and resolves errors and reports trends to leadership.
Identifies and recommends opportunities for workflow improvements, opportunities to leverage technology and improve overall efficiency in all document imaging functions; document preparation, scanning, and indexing.
Answers calls and assists the caller or transfers to the appropriate resource or department in a courteous manner demonstrating the Franciscan values.
Demonstrates technical expertise of the electronic health record, document imaging application and scanning equipment. Understands organization electronic health records, appropriate documentation, and information update processes.
Performs technical troubleshooting and reports system and/or equipment issues and submits IT log when appropriate; works with document imaging team remotely to demonstrate issues and facilitate resolution.
Submits new documents for inclusion in the corporate HIM forms inventory to facilitate virtual/remote indexing between regions. Identifies and provides examples of non-barcoded documents to HIM manager to present to clinical area for barcoding to ensure optimal indexing productivity/accuracy.
Performs document imaging functions proficiently in accordance with established productivity and quality requirements.
Performs chart pick up/rounds and coordinates courier delivery and crate management; Reviews processed batches and purges in accordance with established retention timeframe.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma/GED - Required
1 year Healthcare Setting - Preferred
1 year Electronic Health Record (EHR) Document Imaging - Preferred
