The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and performance of Health Information Management operations. This role ensures the integrity, security, accessibility, and compliance of patient health information while supporting organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. The HIM Manager leads a team of HIM professionals and collaborates with clinical, operational, compliance, and technology stakeholders to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Operations
Manage the daily operations of the HIM department, ensuring service level agreements and productivity targets are met.
Lead, coach, and develop HIM staff, supervisors, and team leads.
Establish departmental goals, monitor performance metrics, and implement process improvements.
Ensure effective staffing, workload distribution, and resource utilization.
Foster a culture of accountability, quality, and customer service.
Health Information Management
Oversee medical record completion, scanning, indexing, record maintenance, and release of information processes.
Ensure the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and availability of patient health information.
Monitor compliance with documentation standards and record retention requirements.
Support audits and regulatory reviews as needed.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state privacy laws, and organizational policies.
Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Security teams on data protection and privacy initiatives.
Investigate and resolve potential HIM-related compliance concerns.
Maintain department readiness for internal and external audits.

Must haves:
5-6 years in a hospital setting- Rev Cycle
Leading a team with the processes of Patient charts, billing, medical records, scanning - Must understand the flow of what happens after a patient is treated and maintaining the records accurately
Release of Information (ROI) of health records
The ability to set metrics and ensure the team is hitting goals and quotas
Great leadership and teaching abilities
Ability to work directly with their customer (Ascension) and feel comfortable with providing updates, stats
Managing the staff and employees all within the budget - Set number of employees that should be able to handle the workload
Nice to haves:
Previously a HIM Manager but would take someone that was a Supervisor leading a team that is looking to move to the next step.
Supervising multiple locations- 1 main site and the 3 offsite locations are very small that they will maintain but still require check-ins- They are pretty self sufficient
Bachelors- Experience trumps education.

Leveraging your knowledge in Health Informatics (HI), you will ensure that all patient health records are accurate, accessible, secure, and of high quality. Your ability to solve problems effectively and navigate a fast-paced setting will be key to your excellence in this position.
This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
