Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Area 10 Strategic Highways account based in Preston Brook, Runcorn.

Working as part of our operational team, you will play an important role in the delivery of highway maintenance activities across the strategic road network. The role includes the installation of temporary traffic management, routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civils works, winter maintenance operations and emergency response duties.

The standard hours of work are 42 hours per week (average), working 12-hour day and night shifts on a 4-on, 4-off rotation.

What you will be doing

  • Installing and removing temporary traffic management.
  • Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities.
  • Carrying out minor civils works and environmental maintenance activities including litter picking.
  • Participating in winter maintenance operations.
  • Undertaking emergency call out and standby duties.
  • Driving and operating vehicles and plant requiring both general and specialist skills.
  • Completing vehicle checks, routine maintenance tasks and cleaning activities.
  • Recording driver hours and completing vehicle defect reporting documentation.
  • Allocating and capturing time and resource utilisation using the relevant operating systems.
  • Attending project briefings, toolbox talks and operational meetings as required.
  • Maintaining high technical and safety standards at all times.
  • Communicating and liaising effectively with colleagues, subcontractors, emergency services, the police, clients, customers and members of the public.
  • Taking responsibility for your own health, safety and wellbeing and that of others around you.

We want to hear from you if you have

  • LGV Class C Licence.
  • 35 Hours Driver CPC qualification.
  • Appropriate CSCS Card.
  • Personal Highways Safety Passport.
  • Manual Handling certification.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach to work.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience working within highways maintenance or operational environments (desirable).
