Summary

Supervises crews performing construction, repair, and preservation activities on roads and bridges within Darlington County. Works alongside crews as needed to support maintenance operations. Plans and schedules routine and preventive maintenance activities. Investigates citizen work requests, determines necessary work, and establishes priorities and schedules. Completes job hazard analysis forms, identifies and mitigates risks, and conducts safety meetings prior to the start of work activities. Maintains section shed operations, including facility cleanliness, equipment maintenance, security, and compliance with safety protocols. Conducts annual employee evaluations and recommends personnel actions, including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures. Verifies that crew members complete required CDL pre-trip inspections before operating CDL vehicles. Directs assigned crews during emergency and inclement weather operations, which may require extended work hours or 12-hour shifts.

Examples of dutiesFour (4) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
