Operates a tandem dump truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, and construction materials to complete DOT projects. Operates a loader used to maintain and install drives and drainage on primary and secondary roads in Georgetown County. Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe and the front-end loader used to maintain and install drives, drainage on primary and secondary roads in Georgetown County. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual. Repairs pothole patching in a 2-3 men crew repairing the roads and shoulders throughout the county. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts.
One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
