Job Description

High Voltage Technician – Permanent – South Metro Depot

As a Western Power High Voltage Technician, your role will be to test and execute fault finding on HV/LV cables and primary plant within the Transmission and Distribution network.

You will be responsible for enhancing reliability and value of cables and primary assets as well as responding to emergencies on cables and primary assets.

You will be based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. With the latest infrastructure and technology, the depot empowers all employees to create that perfect work-life balance whilst operating in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Your Role in Action 

  • Perform moderately to complex technical tasks, planning, installation, commissioning, construction, operation and maintenance on Western Power or Customer facilities
  • Evaluate, analyse, test and report on new or modified equipment or facilities for performance or safety improvements
  • Plan, prepare and provide detailed operations support, including contract administration, contract services and direct support to the HV Laboratory Team Leader
  • Undertake investigations on methods or processes of work, plant and equipment usage, incidents or accidents, to achieve commercially competitive standards for safety, quality, service delivery, cost and customer satisfaction
  • Undertake assigned duties for Emergency Response situations, including undertaking tasks within competency and training.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Current WA Electrical Workers License – essential
  • Progress towards a diploma or tertiary qualification in electrical/electronic engineering - desirable
  • Technical experience in the Networks business, including appropriate industry licences or certificates of competency
  • Knowledge of networks construction, maintenance and operations field practices and procedures
  • Understanding of engineering standards, regulations and procedures applicable to the Section and Stream Western Power Safety policies and procedures
  • Exposure to MS Office systems, Word, Excel & or Access ELLIPSE/MIMS and scheduling/work management systems
  • Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’.
