We believe that our strength is not just in our steel but the diversity of our workforce. Our people make the difference.

At Tata Steel’s Trostre Works, our electrical distribution networks are critical to everything we do. We’re now looking for a High Voltage Engineer to take ownership of those networks, shape long-term strategy, and lead the safe, compliant operation of HV and LV systems across site.

This is a senior, trusted engineering role with genuine influence - combining hands-on technical authority, leadership of specialist teams, and close collaboration with National Grid and regulatory bodies.

What you will do

As High Voltage Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and development of Trostre’s HV and LV electrical distribution networks, covering 33kV, 11kV, 3.3kV, 415Vac and 230Vdc systems. You’ll lead the inspection and maintenance teams and manage budgets of around £1m.

You’ll also fulfil the duties of Deputy High Voltage Engineer in Charge, representing Trostre internally across Tata Steel UK and externally with the Competent Authority and National Grid. The High Voltage Engineer’s responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing the onsite HV/LV inspection, testing and maintenance teams
  • Supporting compliance with electrical, health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Acting as the primary interface with National Grid, managing permits and works on site
  • Setting site electrical policy in line with BS, EN, IEC and Tata Steel standards
  • Shaping capital investment, CAPEX and SRE plans for HV equipment replacement
  • Managing contractors and internal resources to meet manufacturing and maintenance needs
  • Supporting shutdowns, start-ups and fault response through a best-endeavours call-out system
  • Driving continuous improvement through audits, reviews and Management of Change

What you will need

You’ll be an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in high-voltage systems and the confidence to operate as a senior technical authority within a complex industrial environment.

You’ll bring:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience gained in an industrial or manufacturing setting
  • Proven experience managing and maintaining high-voltage electrical distribution systems, ideally within heavy industry
  • A strong working knowledge of electrical safety, compliance and risk assessment, with the ability to set and uphold standards
  • Experience leading teams, managing contractors and influencing stakeholders at all levels
  • The ability to manage budgets, maintenance strategies and long-term asset planning
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to represent the site with external bodies, including network operators and regulators
