Plan and teach engaging lessons that support various proficiencies and learning styles.
Develop and support extracurricular activities for both faculty and students.
Lead career-building workshops for faculty and community members on topics such as resume writing and interviewing.
Help students prepare for regional, national, and international English language competitions.
Design and implement a grant project based on a community-identified need.
You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as English clubs for community-based tourism groups.
As a High School English Teacher, you will be trained on core methodologies for teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), such as communicative language teaching, lesson planning, and curriculum design. Peace Corps/Kyrgyz Republic will teach you the Kyrgyz language to help you comfortably live in and connect with the community. You can also receive language resources to learn Russian and Uzbek languages later in service.
After 11 weeks of training, you will move to a rural, semi-urban, or urban community where you will collaborate with higher education institutions. You will work with the community to assess the needs and develop solutions based on best teaching practices and the partner’s goals.

Only heterosexual couples can be accepted for this program.
Each person must apply separately and must qualify for a position in either the same or a different sector than their partner.
Couples will live together during training but may separate occasionally for field-based activities.
Couples who are selected for the same sector will live together but work with different local partners, which may be in the same community or in neighboring communities (not more than 30 minutes apart)., Cohabitating couples are highly encouraged to present themselves as married throughout service due to cultural expectations.
