Under the direction of the Director of Training and Education, the Instructor HSE/GED is responsible for preparing students for High School Equivalency/ General Education Development (HSE/GED) test, which is equivalent to a high school diploma. Teaching basic skills to participants with varying academic levels by integrating skills that prepare students for HSE/GED test, which is equivalent to a high school diploma. Assist trainees for the HSE/GED test and transition to construction career pathways, apprenticeships, and/or postsecondary education. The areas of instruction may consist of one or more of the following areas: Mathematics, Reasoning through Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Science, Social Studies, and Civics. Additionally, Instructors are responsible for implementing Financial Literacy, and for following goal setting with the Career Readiness Coach (CRC). The High School Equivalency (HSE)/GED Instructor is a grant funded assignment with a projected end date of with renewal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan and deliver lessons on various subjects that are included in the HSE/GED test.
- Assess the learning abilities and educational needs of each student.
- Develop individualized teaching plans to meet the specific needs of each student.
- Monitor students’ progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Aid students with test-taking strategies and time management skills.
- Provide support and counseling to students dealing with stress or other issues affecting their education.
- Review and grade assignments, providing feedback to students to enhance their learning.
- Stay updated on changes to the HSE/GED test and adjust lesson plans accordingly.
- Keep correct records of students’ attendance, progress, and grades.
- Knowledge of Math and Literacy areas of study.
- Knowledge of various effective teaching techniques that are right for young and adult learners.
- Effective classroom and individual communication techniques.
- The ability to relate the topics being learned to real-life situations, and specifically to construction when possible.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Access) and Internet (browser, search engines).
- Electronic communication (e-mail, social networking, etc.).
- Proficient in diagnosing, assessing and evaluating the strengths, functional levels and readiness for participants to transition career ready.
- Ability to engage, coach, mentor and guide participants toward personal goals.
- Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to participant development in a high quality, respectful environment.
- Provide excellent client service.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Arizona Adult Education Certification.
- Ability to get Fingerprint Clearance card.
- Strong classroom facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- I am proficient in Microsoft products and database management.
- Knowledge of Phoenix metropolitan area, local community organizations, educational and training systems, public agencies, and private industries preferably.
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Superior people’s skills, including strong speaking and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- The Ability to collaborate well with people from diverse backgrounds.
- The ability to work well with others in a team atmosphere.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Education, Social Services and a related major.
- Minimum
Experience: 2-year related experience and/or training (or an equivalent combination of both).
- Preferred
Experience: 3 years' related experience and/or training (or an equivalent combination of both).
