Overview

The North Plainfield School District, a culturally diverse Preschool - Grade 12 district in Somerset County serving approximately 3,300 students, is seeking a dynamic and student-centered High School Biology Teacher to join North Plainfield High School. The ideal candidate will create an engaging science classroom where students investigate, question, analyze, and apply scientific concepts through inquiry, laboratory experiences, collaboration, and real-world connections.

Qualifications

• Valid New Jersey instructional certificate with appropriate endorsement to teach Biological Science
• Strong knowledge of biology content and the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science
• Ability to design rigorous, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction
• Experience facilitating laboratory investigations and inquiry-based learning
• Ability to use student achievement data to inform instruction and provide targeted support
• Commitment to meeting the needs of diverse learners through differentiation and inclusive instructional practices
• Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and collaboration skills
• Ability to integrate technology and relevant scientific applications into instruction
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned biology instruction
• Engage students in laboratory investigations, scientific inquiry, problem solving, and data analysis
• Create learning experiences that connect biological concepts to real-world applications
• Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of diverse learners
• Assess student learning regularly and use data to adjust instruction and provide appropriate interventions and enrichment
• Establish a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, collaboration, academic discourse, and student ownership of learning
• Maintain appropriate laboratory safety procedures and expectations
• Collaborate with science colleagues, instructional coaches, supervisors, and administrators to strengthen curriculum and instruction
• Participate in professional learning communities, professional development, and school and district initiatives
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Supervisor, or district administration

Terms of Employment

Ten-month position. Salary in accordance with the negotiated agreement.

Salary

$69,630-103,000, commensurate with education and experience, in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the North Plainfield Board of Education and the North Plainfield Education Association.
