High Net Worth Underwriter

Purpose of the Role

As a High Net Worth Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing complex and high-value underwriting cases, ensuring that all risk assessments and decisions are made in accordance with the company's underwriting philosophy, risk appetite, and treaty provisions. Your role will serve as the primary point of coordination with reinsurers for case referrals, treaty interpretations, and facultative placements. You will also lead capability development initiatives for HNW underwriting, including technical training, mentoring, and skills enhancements.

Responsibilities of the Role

Reinsurance Strategic Partnership Management

• Strengthen and sustain strategic partnerships with reinsurers in support of the company's High Net Worth (HNW) underwriting portfolio. The objective is to ensure seamless facultative placements, proactive engagement, and consistent alignment between internal underwriting philosophy and reinsurance treaty terms.
• Optimize reinsurance capacity utilization, enhance turnaround time for facultative cases,, and promote a collaborative environment where reinsurers serve as technical partners rather than transactional approvers.

Treaty Interpretation and Compliance

• Ensure that underwriting activities are performed within the bounds of approved treaty provisions. This includes maintaining adherence to automatic and facultative limits, proactively monitoring treaty capacity, and minimizing risks of breach or audit findings.

HNW Risk Assessment and Management

• Uphold excellence and flexibility in underwriting complex and high-value life and health insurance cases within the High Net Worth (HNW) segment. This includes making balanced and data-driven risk decisions that affect both the company's risk appetite and commitment to customer-centricity.
• Maintain superior underwriting quality, safeguard portfolio profitability, and enable a responsive and efficient experience for the company's affluent clientele.

HNW Capability Building

• To develop and strengthen the technical, analytical, and professional capabilities of the Underwriting team, with focus on HNW risk evaluation.
• Create structured HNW training programs and technical playbook to elevate team's confidence on decision-making and reinsurance negotiations and placements.

Requirements for the Role

• Graduate of any 4 year course, preferably in Medical Science
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in Life and Health Insurance underwriting, with demonstrated expertise in HNW reinsurance negotiations and case placements.
• Technical Coaching and Mentoring
• Excellent Communication Skills
• FLMI or FALU Designation is a plus but not mandatory
• Experience with AI-driven adaptive learning technologies and data analysis for personalized training.
• Proficiency in using AI tools for content recommendation, automated assessment, and feedback.
