Do you enjoy working with livestock and making a direct contribution to nature conservation? We are looking for a Casual Herdsperson to join our Grazing and Grasslands Team, helping to care for Epping Forest's English Longhorn cattle.

About the Role

Working under the direction of the Conservation Herd Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of an autumn-calving suckler herd across Epping Forest and its Complementary Lands. Duties include livestock welfare, grazing site preparation, infrastructure checks, winter housing management, and calving support.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high standards of livestock husbandry and animal welfare.
• Undertake daily livestock and infrastructure checks, including fences, gates, water supplies and invisible fencing systems.
• Assist with winter cattle housing, feeding, bedding, mucking out and calving.
• Carry out basic animal health treatments and maintain livestock records.
• Support livestock movements and grazing site management.
• Help maintain equipment, vehicles, buildings and grazing infrastructure.

About You

You will have:

• Experience of livestock handling and animal husbandry.
• Knowledge of animal welfare and safe livestock management.
• A full UK driving licence.
• The ability to work independently, outdoors and as part of a team.
• Tractor driving experience or qualifications.

This is a casual position, with hours offered according to operational requirements. The role will involve weekend, bank holiday, and seasonal working to meet the needs of livestock management and animal welfare.
