Your new role
As a HEOR Specialist/Manager, you will have the opportunity to drive Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) projects to deliver on our value proposition, market access, and scientific exchange strategies for assigned products and therapeutic areas. You will also contribute to the HEOR team by securing timely Health Technology Assessment (HTA) submissions, with optimal market access and pricing conditions, leveraging your health economics expertise. This is a cross-functional effort, so you will be collaborating with knowledgeable and cooperative colleagues across Public Affairs, Pricing, Medical, and Commercial departments. You will also work with the HEOR team to develop and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders and decision-makers.

Other tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute the HEOR strategy for assigned products in close collaboration with Market Access. This includes adapting global health economic models and core value dossiers to submit to Core2Health (C2H) and the MHLW (Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare of Japan, engaging external suppliers and contributing to negotiation planning and execution.
  • Identify evidence gaps and, together with the RWE team, design and conduct observational studies to generate optimal real-world data that supports pricing, access, and HTA requirements. Collaborate with Clinical and Medical Affairs for scientific exchange and impactful publications.
  • Provide aligned input to Global and International Operations (IO) to ensure trial designs and integrated evidence plans (IEPs) produce the required evidence for sustainable pricing and access conditions.
  • Support Market Access and External Affairs leadership team by communicating HTA strategies, outcomes, and implications to Senior Management, and contribute to execution of negotiation and access plans.
  • Build and maintain external relationships with KOLs and academic researchers, and work with external suppliers and stakeholders to strengthen scientific credibility and support market access objectives.

Your skills & qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who is a proactive team player with a technical health economic modelling skillset, who can communicate with both specialist and non-specialist audiences in Japan. This person is likely to have:

  • A master’s degree in health economics or closely related field (economics, epidemiology, or degrees with a quantitative and/or health care focus) is required.
  • 3-5 years of pharmaceuticals or healthcare-related industry/organization/consulting experience within the field of HEOR or RWE is preferred. (Equivalent or comparable experience and skills will also be considered, e.g. 0-2 years if you have a relevant PhD.)
  • Experience in health economic modelling (Excel, VBA, R) is preferred.
  • Experience in health technology assessments (HTA) and payer negotiations is preferred.
  • Business-level English is required, with Japanese as an advantage. Experience in Japan, or APAC is an advantage.
