The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications for an Academic Hematopathologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a nationally recognized hematopathology division within an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center dedicated to advancing precision diagnostics, translational discovery, and multidisciplinary cancer care.
The successful candidate will become part of a highly collaborative Division of Hematopathology encompassing bone marrow pathology, cytogenetics, and flow cytometry within a unified integrated diagnostic service. Faculty work closely with hematologic oncologists, transplant physicians, molecular pathologists, and translational scientists to deliver sophisticated, patient-centered diagnostic care for patients with hematologic malignancies.
This role is ideal for a pathologist who is intellectually curious, collaborative, and passionate about academic medicine, diagnostic innovation, and translational research in hematologic diseases.
What You’ll Do
• Provide expert diagnostic interpretation across a broad spectrum of hematopathology cases
• Participate in integrated diagnostic reporting incorporating morphologic assessment, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular genetic studies
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary oncology and hematologic malignancy teams to support comprehensive patient care
• Contribute subspecialty expertise in the diagnosis and classification of hematologic neoplasms and related disorders
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support continued advancement of diagnostic excellence
• Support translational research initiatives within hematopathology and across Roswell Park’s oncology research programs
• Collaborate with clinical investigators, laboratory scientists, and multidisciplinary research teams
• Utilize advanced molecular, cytogenetic, and flow cytometric technologies to support innovative scientific discovery
• Contribute to academic scholarship including publications, presentations, and collaborative scientific initiatives
• Pursue independent or collaborative research interests within a highly supportive academic environment
• Teach and mentor residents, fellows, medical students, and trainees within the pathology and oncology programs
• Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, educational initiatives, and academic activities
• Foster a collaborative and collegial environment emphasizing mentorship, scientific rigor, and continuous learning
• Support departmental and institutional initiatives aligned with High Reliability Organization principles

The Division of Hematopathology within the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center includes internationally recognized bone marrow, cytogenetics, and flow cytometry laboratories integrated into a unified diagnostic service. The division’s six dedicated hematopathologists provide specialized expertise across all hematologic malignancies while advancing innovation in diagnostic pathology and translational research.
Roswell Park’s cytogenetic and flow cytometry laboratories are internationally recognized for their contributions to clinical diagnostics and the development of cutting-edge technologies supporting precision oncology and hematologic cancer care.

What You’ll Bring
• MD, DO, or equivalent degree with Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Hematopathology and/or Anatomic/Clinical Pathology
• Strong diagnostic expertise and interest in hematopathology and hematologic malignancies

• Interest in translational research, molecular diagnostics, and innovative hematopathology technologies

Required Education and Experience
License and Certification Requirement
1. License or permit to practice as a Medical Doctor in the State of New York.
2. Possession of or eligibility for a valid medical specialty certificate in Pathology or a specialty of Anatomic Pathology, Experimental Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, Cytogenetics, Molecular Diagnostics, Flow Cytometry, Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology or Autopsy Pathology.
Education and Experience
Medical Doctor degree and prior full-time experience in the field of Pathology or a specialty of Anatomic Pathology, Experimental Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, Cytogenetics, Molecular Diagnostics and Flow Cytometry, Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, or Autopsy Pathology.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
