The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a skilled and motivated Heavy Mechanic to join our team in Gillette, Wyoming In this hands-on role, you will play a critical part in maintaining and repairing a wide range of equipment and vehicles essential to keeping Wyoming’s transportation system running safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling diesel and gasoline engines; performing maintenance on brake systems, transmissions, and hydraulic components; conducting preventative maintenance; and accurately documenting service and repair work. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy equipment or automotive repair—preferably diesel—along with strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues. A valid driver’s license is required, and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and formal technical training are preferred.

One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back
