GTI Fabrication is seeking experienced Overhead Crane Operators, Riggers, and Material Handlers to support heavy material movement and manufacturing operations throughout our Buffalo facility. This role is responsible for safely operating overhead cranes, rigging large assemblies, and moving steel structures, weldments, modular systems, skids, and industrial equipment throughout fabrication and assembly operations.
The ideal candidate has experience working in heavy manufacturing, steel fabrication, modular construction, industrial assembly, or structural fabrication environments.
Key Responsibilities
Overhead Crane Operator Responsibilities
• Operate overhead cranes to safely lift, transport, rotate, and position heavy materials and assemblies
• Move fabricated structures, steel components, modular assemblies, skids, and industrial equipment throughout the facility
• Conduct daily crane inspections and maintain safe crane operating practices
• Coordinate with Riggers, welders, fabricators, and production teams during lifting operations
• Support Overhead Crane Operator activities throughout fabrication and manufacturing operations
Rigger Responsibilities
• Perform rigging setup, load balancing, and material positioning activities
• Inspect slings, chains, hooks, spreader bars, and lifting hardware prior to use
• Properly rig large weldments, fabricated assemblies, containers, and industrial equipment for transport and positioning
• Determine lifting points, load weights, center of gravity, and safe rigging configurations
• Support Rigger activities tied to fabrication, welding, assembly, and industrial manufacturing operations
Material Handler Responsibilities
• Support material movement, staging, loading, unloading, and production flow throughout manufacturing operations
• Assist with positioning materials and assemblies for welding, fabrication, paint, electrical integration, and final assembly
• Maintain organized staging areas and safe work zones throughout the facility
• Support Material Handler activities across fabrication, assembly, warehouse, and manufacturing operations
Safety & Manufacturing Support
• Follow OSHA regulations, crane safety procedures, rigging standards, and internal safety requirements
• Perform all lifting operations in accordance with safe load handling practices
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
• Stop work immediately if unsafe lifting conditions or operational hazards are identified
Required Qualifications
• Experience as an Overhead Crane Operator, Rigger, Material Handler, Crane Operator, or Heavy Equipment Operator in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Experience operating overhead cranes in fabrication, steel, modular construction, or heavy manufacturing environments
• Strong understanding of rigging practices, load balancing, lifting hardware, and safe material handling procedures
• Ability to safely move large fabricated assemblies and industrial equipment throughout production operations
• Strong safety awareness and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment
• Experience supporting Overhead Crane Operator, Rigger, and Material Handler responsibilities in heavy manufacturing environments preferred
Preferred Qualifications
• NCCCO, rigging, crane, or heavy equipment certifications preferred
• Forklift or industrial material handling equipment experience preferred
• Experience supporting modular construction, industrial fabrication, or engineered product manufacturing preferred
• Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and crane inspection standards preferred
• Experience supporting Overhead Crane Operator, Rigger, and Material Handler work in fabrication or steel manufacturing environments preferred
