This position operates heavy and light equipment and assists in the hands-on repair, maintenance, and construction of the water and sewer utilities.
• At the supervisor’s directive operates heavy and light construction equipment.
• Assist with controlling traffic at work sites.
• Transports heavy equipment to work sites.
• Assist in the hands-on repair and maintenance of water and sewer utilities.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Crew Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the Personnel Policy Manual; emergency response plans; OSHA regulations; work zone safety standards; and equipment operation and repair manuals. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties in water and sewer repairs and operation of equipment in weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of the City's water and sewer systems. Success in this position contributes to a safe and well-maintained City infrastructure.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, stooping, standing, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and grease, machinery with moving parts and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: Assumes supervisory role of crew during the absence of crew supervisor, assuring time efficient completion of work assignments.
