Job Description

Our Transportation and Utilities, Operations East department is looking for a Permanent Full-time Heavy Equipment Operator. Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations East, this position would be expected to primarily operate a plowtruck along with other heavy equipment. The position may also be required to perform general labor duties as needed.

This position operates the backhoe, track hoe, crawler tractor and/or packer to construct and maintain roads, load gravel/sand/salt trucks and for construction and maintenance projects. Operators may be generally assigned to one type of equipment but may operate other equipment from time to time and perform related duties.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operating various pieces of heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Operate loader and backhoe to load trucks.
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of work completed (i.e. loads hauled, locations and culvert inventory).
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Participate in safety meetings.
  • Deal with members of the public in a courteous, respectful manner.
  • Provide labour or other related duties as assigned.
  • Operators have a responsibility to promote and participate in the County’s health and safety program, follow safe work procedures and comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Qualifications

  • Class 1 driver’s license is required and an acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Grade twelve diploma or equivalent, an asset
  • Five or more years in equipment operation
  • An appropriate Equipment Operators license

Shift Details: This position is permanent, full-time with shifts from 7:00am – 4:30pm, 5 days a week, for 44 hours per week. Some extended hours and/or weekends may be required to meet operational needs.

Hourly Rate: $36.48 to $42.92
