
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Yellow Iron) reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is personally responsible for performing complex preventative maintenance tasks, and troubleshoots and repairs a wide variety of operational equipment (Trucks and Yellow Iron).
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. Repairs as needed equipment (including, but not limited to, bulldozers, scrapers, front-end
loaders, yards trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company cars).
Perform assigned repairs and preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with established Standard Repair Times (SRTs), ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company safety and quality standards.
Diagnoses and repairs differentials, hydraulic systems, motors, transmissions, drives, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems.
Performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist.
Completes records such as work orders, card files, P.M. checklists, and oil samples.
Services and maintains other equipment such as light plants, water pump, welders, and other equipment.
Reference site-specific procedures and more detailed site-specific job descriptions.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
3 years' experience in maintenance & repair of diesel heavy equipment (yellow iron).
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Trade School Certification.
Ability to effectively troubleshoot and identify electrical/mechanical issues and complete in a safe timely manner.
Perform all tasks safely and in accordance with applicable OSHA rules and regulations.
Consistently behaves in a manner that is appropriate and professional.
Ability to read and comprehend service manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics etc.
Computer diagnostic skills.
CDL Class A / B with air brake endorsement.
Acceptable Driving Record.
Must possess personal tools.
Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual English / Spanish
Welder Certification - Full fabrication knowledge (Mig/Tig/Arc/Oxy Acetylene/brazing etc.)
CNG / LNG alternative fuel training.
Knowledge of MS Office & Outlook
