Job Description

Heavy Equipment Boilermaker / Welder

Location: ASARCO Mining Operations

Industry: Mining, Metals, & Heavy Fabrication

Build the Future of Mining with ASARCO

Step into a career where your expertise directly powers American industry. ASARCO is a leading integrated copper producer with $1 billion in annual revenue, backed by the global strength of Grupo México Mining

We operate massive, large-scale mining and metallurgical facilities across the Southwest—and we do it with an unyielding commitment to safety, precision, innovation, and long-term sustainability

When you join our 1,400-strong team, you aren’t just doing routine maintenance—you’re tackling complex engineering challenges, keeping multi-million dollar heavy equipment running, working alongside next-generation autonomous technology, and shaping the future of mining.

The Opportunity: What You'll Do

We are seeking a Master Welder & Boilermaker who thrives on heavy iron, custom fabrication, and real-world problem-solving.

In this role, you will be the backbone of our mobile and structural maintenance operations. You’ll tackle high-stakes welding and structural repair on massive surface mining gear—from giant electric shovels and blast hole drills to haul truck fleets and critical shop construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expert Metalwork & Metallurgy: Analyze structural failures, evaluate metal properties, and determine the exact welding procedures required for long-lasting, high-stress repairs.
  • All-Position Welding & Fabrication: Execute high-integrity welds in all positions (Vertical, Overhead, MIG, TIG, Air Arc, and Wire Feed) directly from blueprints, schematics, or custom field layouts.
  • Mastery of the Craft: Design, layout, fit, and fabricate structural steel and high-wear components with minimal supervision.
  • Rigging & Heavy Support: Safely operate high-capacity shop and field equipment, including overhead cranes, boom trucks, forklifts, and precision measuring tools.
  • Safety & Autonomy: Champion a strict safety culture, completing MSHA/OSHA protocols and operating safely around cutting-edge Autonomous Haulage Equipment

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Team

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Background: Technical school training, 1–2 years of related heavy industrial welding experience, or completion of a state-approved apprenticeship preferred.
  • Certifications: Boilermaker/Welder Certification (Vertical and Overhead Welding) highly preferred.

Technical & Personal Skills:

  • Proven Technical Skill: Expert proficiency in MIG, TIG, Air Arc, and Wire Feed processes on heavy plate, structural steel, and specialized alloys.
  • Blueprint Precision: Ability to read, interpret, and build directly from complex engineering schematics and structural blueprints.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A keen diagnostic eye for identifying metal fatigue, stress failures, and structural wear.
  • Grit & Agility: Strong physical stamina to excel in a dynamic, heavy industrial environment, paired with solid time-management skills to balance multiple high-priority tasks.
  • Safety-First Culture: Commitment to completing MSHA safety requirements, environmental awareness training, and interacting safely with automated haulage tech.

Why Join ASARCO?

  • Stability & Growth: Backed by global industry leadership with long-term mine life ahead.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Work on world-class heavy machinery while training on modern autonomous mining tech.
  • Competitive Compensation & Benefits: Premium pay rates, excellent health benefits, retirement plans, and structured career development.
