Heavy Duty Welder – Construction & Plant Machinery

Location: Co. Donegal, Ireland
Salary: €40,000 – €45,000 per annum experience dependant
Overtime: Available and paid in addition to basic salary

The Opportunity

A well-established company operating within the construction equipment and heavy machinery sector is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Welder to join its workshop team in Donegal.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welder/fabricator who enjoys working on large-scale machinery, structural repairs and refurbishment projects. The successful candidate will be involved in the repair, maintenance and rebuilding of construction plant, earthmoving equipment and heavy commercial machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out welding repairs on heavy plant and construction equipment.
• Repair damaged or worn structural components.
• Fabricate replacement components, brackets, guards and steel structures.
• Complete bucket, boom, chassis and attachment repairs.
• Undertake refurbishment and rebuild projects on plant machinery.
• Operate oxy-acetylene cutting equipment and other fabrication tools.
• Work from engineering drawings and workshop instructions.
• Collaborate with fitters and mechanics on major repairs.
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in heavy-duty welding and fabrication.
• Strong MIG welding skills.
• Ability to carry out structural steel repairs and fabrication work.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working on construction plant, earthmoving equipment, quarry machinery, agricultural equipment or heavy commercial vehicles.
• Flux core welding experience.
• MMA/Stick welding experience.
• Experience repairing excavator buckets and wear components.
• Mechanical fitting experience.
• Previous experience within construction, quarrying, mining or heavy equipment industries.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced welder/fabricator who takes pride in producing high-quality work and has experience repairing and rebuilding heavy machinery. Candidates with backgrounds in plant machinery, construction equipment, HGVs, quarry equipment or industrial fabrication will be particularly well suited to the role.
