Heart Failure

In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

This role is responsible for the development and implementation of short and long-term strategic plans for the Abbott HF business for Japan. This includes therapy and market development of Chronic MCS and potential Acute MCS and CardioMEMs portfolios in the future.

Market development activities includes but not limited to: Hospital MCS program development, therapy awareness development, patient flow mapping, marketing programs execution, key account managements, reimbursement supports and providing guidance on areas including clinical and educational to ensure ongoing growth of the Abbott Heart Failure technologies within the team.

Responsibilities Core Job

  • Work closely with HE&R and GA team to develop and implement therapy reimbursement strategies.

  • Map the advanced HF patient potential across Japan. Develop programs with implanting centers to refer and channel the advanced Heart Failure patients for LVAD therapy.

  • Be a consultant to understand key customer unmet needs to develop the therapy/program.

  • Develop and implement key account specific development plans to grow therapy case number and market share.

  • Responsible for business development projects, strategic initiatives, work closely with Senior Leadership team, corporate functions and regional marketing to achieve business objectives.

  • Work closely with the CRM, EP and SH business units to ensure the Heart Failure strategy is being effectively integrated into target accounts.

  • Increase therapy awareness internally and externally.

  • Implementing marketing strategies and plan to drive the therapy.

  • Coach and provide guidance to Therapy Access Manager for plans execution.

  • Build strong customer rapport.

  • Management of Forecasting (product and revenue) for HF to ensure accuracy at a national and account level.

  • You may be required to work outside of your ordinary hours of work to participate in essential training, team meetings, customer events or trade shows/conferences. These events may take place on an evening and/or weekend.

People Management and Development

  • Lead, develop and manage an effective, engaged and motivated team.

  • Maintain a supportive, collaborative working environment in line with Abbott core values.

  • Address any conflict or potential issues sensitively and as they arise and in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate and oversee employee training and development and equipping with the resources available at Abbott to support their career.

  • Review, assess and action requests such as leave approvals and expense management, ensuring company policy is adhered to.

  • Attend regular departmental meetings with relevant manager/supervisor to build in continuous feedback mechanisms.

Qualifications and Experience Essential

  • Tertiary Proven track record in delivering sales and profitability targets in a complex, solution selling environment.

  • Previous sales experience working in the medical devices, healthcare or pharmaceutical industry (10-15 years)

  • Five plus years of demonstrated experience at a leadership level and coaching teams

  • Experiences in developing markets of new technology / therapy.

  • Must have prior sales and account management experiences.

  • Previous experience in educating and training physicians in new technologies, implants and patients management systems would be preferred.

  • Have a sound understanding of, and comply with Abbott Code of Business Conduct and Company Compliance requirements.

  • Experience in people and distributor management.
