He angitūtanga: The opportunity

This role sits at the intersection of data, environment, and infrastructure, supporting how Auckland manages and protects its stormwater network. As a Healthy Waters Specialist within the Systems and Insights team, you’ll play a key role in developing and managing data and information systems that provide insight into environmental and social drivers, network performance, and operational impacts.

Working closely with internal teams and partner agencies, the role contributes to evidence‑based decision making, improved environmental outcomes, and more resilient stormwater operations across the region.

Day‑to‑day you could expect to work on:

• Developing and managing hydrology and water quality datasets and systems
• Turning complex data into clear insights to support planning and operations
• Supporting real‑time and near real‑time data pathways for key stakeholders
• Contributing data and analysis to stormwater planning and infrastructure design
• Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
• Supporting procurement and management of specialist professional services

You’re comfortable working with complex datasets and enjoy translating technical information into practical insights that inform decisions. With a background in engineering, science, or a related discipline, you bring a collaborative mindset and enjoy working across disciplines and organisations.

As a proactive, detail‑focused individual you are motivated by work that has a tangible impact on environmental outcomes and community wellbeing. An interest in innovation, continuous improvement, and contributing to a safety‑focused and inclusive workplace will see you thrive in this role.

Specifically, we are looking for:

• A degree in engineering, science or data science, with relevant professional membership
• Experience in stormwater, three waters, or environmental infrastructure
• Strong capability in data analysis and working with large datasets
• Experience with complex data processes and understanding of the ICT project lifecycle
• Working knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcGIS or ArcMap
• Experience contributing to infrastructure projects and technical reporting
• Confidence engaging with stakeholders and working across teams
