About Alight

Alight is a proximity-driven humanitarian organization that restores power and agency to people experiencing displacement. For nearly 50 years, we’ve walked alongside our customers – displaced communities – in some of the most challenging and complex places in the world. Regardless of role or responsibility in this organization, we center the choices, dignity, and lived experience of people we serve – even when it complicates the work. We live our values at each step of our shared journey. At our best, our commitment to displaced people is sustained, relational, and grounded in trust.

Our mission and purpose

Alight’s purpose is to inspire and unleash abundance in every person, and our mission is to build a meaningful life for and with the displaced. This means not simply addressing basic needs, but building lives filled with joy, dignity, and connection.

Our approach: co-creation

Alight takes a collaborative, human-centered approach. Unlike traditional humanitarian aid, we co-create solutions hand in hand with displaced communities, who know best what they need.

The Role

The Healthcare Workforce & Skill-Building Specialist helps New Americans successfully prepare for, enter, and grow within careers in the healthcare workforce. This role serves as the primary navigator for individuals pursuing employment in Long-Term Care (LTC), helping them identify career opportunities, access the right supports, develop critical workforce skills, and connect with training and employment pathways.

Working closely with Alight's Employment & Career Supports (ECS) team, employers, community organizations, and training partners, this position provides direct employment support while coordinating healthcare-specific workforce initiatives, including digital literacy programming and referrals into credentialing opportunities such as PCA certification and CNA preparation. (This position will not be responsible for managing a caseload of ECS clients. However, the Healthcare Workforce & Skill-Building Specialist can work with ECS clients who are interested in LTC related roles and if and when it makes sense as it relates to outreach activities and other responsibilities associated with this role.)

This role is highly collaborative and requires balancing direct participant support with continuous learning, relationship building, and program improvement. The Healthcare Workforce & Skill-Building Specialist will help strengthen Alight's healthcare workforce system by documenting lessons learned, identifying barriers experienced by participants and employers, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of workforce pathways.

Key Responsibilities

Healthcare Workforce Outreach & Navigation

  • Recruit and engage New Americans interested in careers within the healthcare industry.
  • Provide individualized guidance to help participants identify appropriate healthcare career pathways.
  • Support participants with job search activities, applications, resumes, interview preparation, and employment readiness.
  • Continue to support job seekers (in a reasonable manner) to find employment and navigate barriers to actually starting the job. Once someone has started a job support them (in a reasonable manner) to stay in the job for at least 90 days. One measure of success will be helping 10 people stay in the job at least 90 days.
  • Provide warm handoffs between Alight programs and external partners based on participant needs.

Healthcare Skill-Building Coordination

  • Lead implementation of healthcare-focused Digital Literacy programming (GEAR Track 1).
  • Identify and develop opportunities to deliver Digital Literacy programming with Long-Term Care employers throughout the metro area.
  • Coordinate participant referrals into PCA certification pathways, CNA training providers, CNA test-preparation activities, and other healthcare credential opportunities.
  • Help participants access CNA re-testing supports when appropriate.

Employer & Partner Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Long-Term Care employers, workforce partners, and community organizations.
  • Coordinate closely with employers regarding workforce needs and opportunities for participant engagement.
  • Collaborate with Community Workshop staff, CareerForce, and other Alight teams to ensure participants are connected to the appropriate services.

Learning, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Track participant outcomes, referrals, placements, and workforce milestones.
  • Document barriers, successes, and emerging workforce trends.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of healthcare workforce programming.
  • Participate in grant reporting and evaluation activities.

Success Measures

Success is measured not only by the number of people served, but by helping New Americans successfully progress toward meaningful healthcare careers. This includes:

  • Increased healthcare job placements.
  • Successful implementation of Digital Literacy programming.
  • Strong collaboration across Alight programs.
  • High-quality participant experiences.
  • Strong employer relationships.

You believe shared ownership creates better outcomes. You trust displaced customers to guide the way forward. You’re open to new and different possibilities, are motivated in what an abundant future could hold, and you generate ideas sparked from insight – and foster spaces that are safe for others to generate their ideas too.
