Hours are restricted to 29 hours per week, with the majority of hours scheduled during daytime hours Monday through Friday. Position Title: Healthcare Lab Assistant

Department: Health and Life Sciences

Employment type: part-time, non-benefitted, 29 hours or less per week

Position Purpose: Healthcare lab assistants support educational laboratory experiences for students enrolled in PVCC healthcare programs. Working under the guidance of healthcare faculty and the Healthcare Lab Manager, lab assistants prepare and maintain a variety of laboratory environments in which healthcare skills are demonstrated and practiced. A significant component of the position involves organizing, maintaining, and managing an extensive inventory of healthcare supplies and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of procedures to support laboratory setup for healthcare programs, with a strong emphasis on nursing programs.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of supply and equipment inventory and assists with inventory organization and management.
  • Applies appropriate sanitation techniques and laboratory safety practices.
  • Quickly locates and prepares supplies and equipment as instructional needs arise.
  • Cleans and maintains healthcare education laboratory spaces and equipment. Exposure to biological hazards is minimal.
  • Communicates frequently with co-workers, supervisors, students, administrators, and faculty to discuss and plan detailed laboratory setup needs.
  • Provides guidance to work-study students assisting with laboratory setup, cleanup, and inventory management.
  • Refers non-routine issues to appropriate supervision.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the educational quality and success of students in PVCC healthcare programs and to serving as a trusted, professional, and reliable resource for PVCC healthcare program faculty.
  • Assumes broader and increasingly responsible assignments as competencies are developed

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook to organize information, maintain records, and communicate with others.
  • Experience organizing, tracking, stocking, or maintaining supplies, equipment, or inventory in a workplace, educational, healthcare, or similar setting.
  • Experience following detailed written and verbal instructions to accurately prepare materials, supplies, equipment, or workspaces for scheduled activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple individuals or groups to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, move, and properly store supplies and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in a healthcare clinical setting.
  • Current or previous healthcare certification or licensure.
  • Experience providing instruction or guidance to groups.
