Healthcare Assistant

Shrewsbury Hospital | Nursing | Permanent contract | Full time | Includes weekend work
£25,038 per annum
37.5 hours per week

As a HCA you will work with the Pre-Assessment Team alongside other healthcare assistants, nurses, physiotherapists, bookings co-ordinators and outpatients staff to ensure the patients journey is streamline and the care they receive is of a high standard. As the Pre-Assessment Department, we are the very beginning of the patient’s journey with Nuffield Health and we strive to provide excellent, safe and efficient care from the very start. Our specialities include Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Breast Surgery, General Surgery, Plastics Surgery, ENT, Cardiology, GP Services, Psychiatry and Physiotherapy.

Responsibilities of a Healthcare Assistant Pre-assessment

  • Welcome and see patients within a busy clinic setting

  • Undertake baseline observations, including ECG, diabetes checks and MRSA Screening, urinalysis

  • Safely carry out phlebotomy

  • Undertake administrative duties such as preparing clinic notes and patient information leaflets

  • When required, support the Outpatients Department.

Our Ideal Healthcare Assistant Pre-assessment will:

  • Have a variety of Outpatients/ Phlebotomy experience (if not currently competent, training will be given to the right candidate)

  • Be patient focused and able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.

  • Be a real team player.

  • Good IT skills

  • Have a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage a wide range of activities and changing priorities.

  • Have a flexible approach. A passion for development and training are also essential.

  • Able to work as part of a small team

  • Be qualified to NVQ Level 2 or 3, with relevant experience in an acute hospital or care setting.

Shrewsbury hospital, ranked as 'Good' in the last CQC inspection, is purpose built and well equipped with 30 en-suite bedrooms, 3 operating theatres, an endoscopy suite, an Ambulatory Care Unit, and a busy outpatients department which includes physiotherapy and diagnostic imaging. Our diagnostic provision includes X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI and CT facilities.

We offer the most up to date surgical treatments combined with a warm welcome and a professional and caring service from our matron-led nursing team. We specialise in the areas of orthopaedics, ophthalmology, cosmetic surgery, and women's health, but also undertake general surgery, urology, and interventions for chronic pain management.
