Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives. 

We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:

• Delivering more practical information and support
• Leading in shaping the end-of-life experience

As a Healthcare Assistant working permanent night shifts, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred end of life care to patients in their own homes across North Wales. Working overnight, you will provide compassionate support during a time when patients and their families often need reassurance, comfort, and responsive care the most.

Working under the guidance of registered professionals, you will support patients with personal care, symptom management, mobility, comfort measures, and emotional support, helping them remain safe, comfortable, and dignified throughout the night.

You’ll be responsible for recognising and responding to changes in a patient’s condition, escalating concerns appropriately, and maintaining accurate documentation. You will work both independently and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, ensuring continuity of care and contributing to individualised care plans.

This is a rewarding and hands-on role where you’ll make a meaningful difference to patients and families during some of the most important moments of their lives, while supporting Marie Curie’s commitment to delivering exceptional end of life care around the clock.

Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 2 (aligned with AFC) £26,300 - pro rata per annum + enhancements

Contract: Permanent - Night shifts Only

Based: Community Based – North Wales

Locations:

Flintshire & Wrexham - Full Time/ Part Time (36 hours per week & 18 hours per week)

Job includes working across two services:

• Hospice Care at Home Night Service 22:00-07:00 - Travelling up to 25 miles from Home Address
• Rapid Response Night Service - 22:00-07:00 - Based in Deeside Community Hospital

Gwynedd - Full Time (36 hours per week)

• Hospice Care at Home Night Service 22:00-07:00 - Travelling up to 25 miles from Home Address

What we’re looking for: 

• NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent Level 2 qualification (e.g. NCFE, BTEC), plus functional skills in numeracy and literacy at Level 2
• At least 6 months of recent care delivery experience in a health or social care setting
• Strong communication skills with the ability to hold person-centred, empathetic conversations and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Knowledge of palliative and end of life care, including holistic care planning and symptom management
• Ability to plan and prioritise care, respond to changes in patient condition, and escalate appropriately
• A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
