Under the leadership of the Diabetes Services Manager and the Diabetes Services Coordinator, the medical technician is responsible for assisting in the treatment of patients by performing the following duties: performs basic administrative, technical and medical supportive services for a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner. The medical technician is responsible for performing varied activities, including office duties, telephone support, patient assistance, scheduling, ordering and completing purchase orders, sorting interoffice and USPS mail, and maintaining office equipment. Patient assistance includes performing vital signs, glucometer downloading, glucometer teaching, and point of care labs.
Experience
Previous experience in an outpatient setting with patients with diabetes is preferred. Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish preferred. Demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence using proper grammar and spelling. Ability to speak effectively with patients, customers or employees of the organization. Must maintain strict patient confidentiality, adhering to all HIPPA guidelines and regulations. Familiar with a PC and basic software, such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, etc.
Education
Course to achieve a Medical Assistant Certificate is required.
Licensure/Certifications
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required. Completion of the ADCES Diabetes Paraprofessional Level 2 Program to be completed within two years of hire date.

Per diem, (10-hour shifts), weekdays varied day shifts as needed - No guaranteed set hours in a two-week pay period

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.
