Job Description

Title: HEALTH SERVICES SUBSTITUTE

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Perform health services duties in the absence of the regular Health Services Professional.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred current certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Must have CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position.
  • Ability to prepare required written reports.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the designated individual upon arrival at the school.
  • Provides first-aid services following established standards of practice.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to work with all students.
  • Administers and/or assists students with medication during school hours.
  • Documents medication administration in medication log.
  • Maintains a daily log of student visits to the clinic.
  • Maintains confidentiality and integrity of student health records.
  • Maintains student confidentiality.
  • Maintains HIPAA standards as required.
  • Maintains standards of practice regarding universal precautions.
  • Reports student incidents or accidents to appropriate administrator as deemed necessary.
  • Reports in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day.
  • Follows all policies, rules and procedures.
  • Remains in the building or on school grounds during the hours assigned as a Substitute.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Possess familiarity with the duties of a school Health Services Provider.
    • Demonstrates some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of nursing.
    • Possesses ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Possesses the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public.

    • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer.
    • See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone.
    • Possess the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and to reach overhead.

Reports to: Principal and Director of Human Resources

Terms of Employment:

Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.

Evaluation:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations.
