Administer the refinery safety program, with policy and procedural approvals, with primary emphasis on implementing, managing, and recommending improvements of the safety program for optimum results.At Valero, we are committed to advancing the future of energy through innovation, ingenuity and unmatched execution. You can help achieve this goal if you can:Ensure compliance with all applicable governmental and industry safety standards.Interface with refinery employees and assists with Health and Safety needs and education.Conduct OSHA compliance audits and safety field audits for assigned area (safe work permit, lockout/tag out, fall protection, etc.).Work with all on-site personnel to solve and implement corrections of safety problems and to improve safety effectiveness.Participate in department “on-call” responsibilities for all Health and Safety matters.Conduct inspections/testing of safety and fire protection systems/equipment and conduct routine and non-routine inspections and work site assessments.Receive and distributes Material Safety Data Sheets and update the program manuals as needed.Maintain and assure proper operation of gas testing equipment/H2S monitors and assist refinery personnel with work permit issuance.Assist refinery personnel with work permit issuance and inspect and perform atmospheric testing for safe work permits and insure same for confined space entries and hot work, as needed for maintenance, turnaround, or construction work.Conduct routine technical assignments under the guidance of more experienced personnel.Complete short-term Health and Safety projects.Provide technical assistance to the refinery and assigned area on safety/fire protection issues and attend and participate in team meetings involving all Process Safety Management (PSM) matters and incident investigations.Conduct or assists in contractor orientation, assessments on S&HG’s for contractor and Valero personnel and incident/injury/loss reporting.Participate in emergency response activities and perform first aid in the event of an emergency situation.Assist contractors with safety during turnarounds and plant expansion programs.This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
Minimum Requirements:Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero McKee Refinery, required.High School diploma or GED required.3 years of refinery/petrochemical safety permitting experience required.Preferred Requirements:Emergency Response training preferred.Incident Command training preferred.Need more reasons to work for a company that is both professionally challenging and culturally rewarding?
