Job Description

We are looking for a Manager, Health and Safety to join our team in Johor Bahru.

Let’s talk about the role

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading and implementing health and safety programs across the Malaysia Headgear operations in Tebrau and in iPark. This role ensures compliance with Malaysian regulatory requirements and company standards, while driving a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement in risk management and incident prevention. Partner with various teams and functions to embed safety in operations and culture.

Let’s talk about Responsibilities

  • Health and Safety Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with DOSH, BOMBA regulations, liaise with regulatory authorities for license, maintain statutory documentation and reporting, monitor regulatory updates and support leadership in due diligence.
  • Safety Discipline and Culture: Lead deployment of safety rules and routines, coaching leaders on key safety practices, promoting a safety-first culture, and encouraging early reporting of hazards and discomfort. Embed the safety rules, standard work, rotation discipline and leader accountability through tier meetings, shift starts and finish, Gemba, audits and incident reviews.
  • Hazard and Risk Management: Oversee hazard identification and risk assessments across site functions, prioritizing controls by hierarchy and partnering to manage traffic, plant, equipment, chemicals, contractors, maintenance, 6S and emergency scenarios.
  • Ergonomics and Manual Tasks: Lead ergonomic risk mapping and hazardous manual task controls, collaborating to redesign tasks and using early pain / discomfort /soreness reports as leading indicators for intervention to prevent injuries. Partner with Engineering and Production on task, tool, fixture, workstation and layout improvements.
  • Incident and Corrective Action Management: Govern incident reporting and investigations ensuring immediate containment, investigation quality, root cause analysis, corrective actions ownership, effectiveness checks effectiveness checks for LTIs, MTIs, first aid cases, near hits, hazards and discomfort trends, and escalation of ineffective controls.
  • Injury Management and Return to Work: Manage early intervention pathways for injuries, coordinating with medical, insurer, Production/Supervisors, and People team partners to support safe return-to-work, restrictions and modified duties are documented, current and reviewed and monitor injury trends with recommendations and insights to the business.
  • Contractor, Project and Change Management: Ensure contractor induction, license, permit and SWMS, HIRAC expectations are met and in compliance with site Health and Safety requirements, embed safety into engineering and project changes, and suspend unsafe contractor work. Participate in management of change, NPI, layout, equipment, automation, chemical and capital project reviews.
  • Training and Consultation: Own and maintain Health and Safety induction and refresher training content and frameworks, partner with departments to define Health and Safety critical competencies, and support consultation through safety committees and forums.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Wellbeing: Lead emergency planning and drills, contribute to crisis management, and support psychosocial safety by addressing fatigue, conflict, and psychological hazards.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Maintain Health and Safety dashboards tracking incidents, training, audits, and compliance, using data to identify risks and provide transparent reporting to leadership. Run audits / inspections and report leading and lagging indicators with clear escalations.
  • Health and Safety Management System: Maintain and update the Malaysia procedure and work instructions in the Health and Safety Management System and align with Resmed strategic objectives. Establish the health and safety management system for the new ipark site.


Let’s talk about Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Relevant Health and Safety, safety, engineering, ergonomics, occupational health or related qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Approx. 8 to 12 years hands-on Health and Safety experience in manufacturing, warehouse, medical device, pharmaceutical, FMCG or comparable operations. Degree in relevant field
  • Registered DOSH Green Book holder and be registered safety officer for the site.
  • Working knowledge of DOSH, BOMBA, DOE requirements, Codes of Practice, notifiable incidents and consultation
  • Proven capability in risk assessment, inspections, audits, incident investigation, corrective action management and control verification.
  • Practical understanding of hazardous manual tasks, ergonomics, traffic / warehouse risk, contractor control, emergency preparedness and plant safety.
  • Strong floor presence across shifts; able to coach and influence leaders and frontline teams without taking over their accountability.
  • Clear written / verbal communication, data analysis and practical problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • ISO 45001 internal auditor / lead auditor training.
  • Regulated manufacturing, GMP, clean manufacturing or medical device experience.
  • Manual task assessment, Perform, human factors, musculoskeletal injury prevention or ergonomic risk mapping experience.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, dangerous goods, environmental / waste interfaces or safety-by-design in capital projects.
