Salary: £50,000–£55,000 + Up to 10% Annual Bonus

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 5:30pm (Flexibility Required)

About the Role

We are supporting a highly respected, UK-based organisation within the trade and construction supply sector to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager. This is a critical position with full ownership of H&S strategy across UK operations, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and providing regular board-level updates.

The successful candidate will act as the H&S subject matter expert, ensuring legal compliance, fostering a strong safety culture, and maintaining safe working environments across a diverse operational landscape – including two warehouses, head office staff in Rugby, and around 50 remote field-based sales staff.

This is a predominantly site-based role, requiring a strong, visible presence across office and warehouse environments. Occasional remote work may be possible by exception.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead H&S compliance across all sites and functions, including office, warehouse, and remote workers

  • Develop and implement the H&S strategy, supporting a culture of continuous improvement and safety-first behaviours

  • Serve as the competent person for health and safety, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and industry standards

  • Oversee all types of risk assessments, prioritising actions based on risk level

  • Manage external audits, including ISO 45001 certification and related compliance programmes

  • Maintain effective emergency preparedness and incident response plans

  • Record, analyse and report on accidents, near misses and trends; lead corrective actions

  • Facilitate regular Health & Safety Committee meetings and staff consultation

  • Mentor and support a H&S Apprentice through their professional development

  • Lead new H&S initiatives and projects across the UK operation

  • Provide regular reporting to the COO and present monthly updates to the board

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) – essential

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role, preferably within warehousing or similar operational settings

  • Proven experience in leading H&S programmes and managing or mentoring team members

  • Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and risk management principles

  • Hands-on experience with ISO 45001 and H&S audit processes

  • Capable of writing and implementing policies, procedures and training materials

  • Confident communicator with experience delivering presentations at senior level

  • A practical, collaborative approach – accessible, visible, and proactive in the workplace

  • Passion for driving positive safety culture and influencing behavioural change

  • Exposure to facilities/building management would be advantageous for future development

What’s in it for You

  • Salary: £50,000–£55,000 + up to 10% performance-related bonus

  • Annual Leave: 23 days + 8 bank holidays (increasing with service up to 28 days)

  • Health Cash Plan: Cover for medical, dental, optical, therapy and wellbeing costs for you and dependants

  • Additional Benefits:

    • 24/7 GP phone service & mental health support

    • Enhanced pension scheme & life cover

    • Discount schemes for retail, gym & dining

    • Cycle to Work Scheme
