This Position reports to:

Head of Health, Safety & Environment Dpt


Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager for the Saint-Jean and Saint-Rémi plants, you will play a key role in the continuous improvement of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) performance by driving sustainable changes in behaviors and processes while strengthening a best-in-class prevention culture across the business unit.

In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to multidisciplinary teams (Engineering, Production, and Maintenance) to ensure health and safety principles are integrated into the design and continuous improvement of workstations, equipment, and work methods.

You will also contribute to legal compliance and the continuous improvement of our environmental processes by supporting the implementation of initiatives that help achieve ABB's Zero Target 2030.

In addition, you will play a central role in incident investigations by leading root cause analyses that incorporate human and organizational factors and by ensuring the implementation of sustainable and effective corrective actions.

Through your leadership and ability to influence others, you will support teams in proactively identifying risks and adopting industry best practices, contributing to a measurable reduction in workplace risks and sustained improvements in HSE performance.

This position contributes to ABB Canada's Electrification, Installation Products Division and is based in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

The work model for this role is 100% on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement of HSE performance by implementing corporate management systems, training programs, and improvement initiatives, with a strong focus on optimizing workstation ergonomics.
  • Conduct and support comprehensive ergonomic assessments of workstations, tasks, movements, and physical demands to identify risk factors and recommend technical and organizational improvements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams to design and improve workstations, layouts, tools, and work methods by integrating ergonomic and safety principles from the design stage.
  • Coach managers and supervisors on their legal and organizational HSE responsibilities while promoting the integration of ergonomic best practices and preventive measures.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, monitor action plans, and ensure the effective implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment and work tools while identifying training needs related to operational health and safety risks.
  • Participate in HSE audits and ensure compliance with corporate HSE management system requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations and conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCA), incorporating human and organizational factors into recommendations.
  • Engage and influence stakeholders to strengthen the prevention culture, promote HSE initiatives, and communicate HSE performance results.
  • Plan and lead continuous improvement projects (Lean, process optimization, and physical strain reduction), while monitoring key performance indicators.
  • Support the department's daily administrative documentation to ensure accurate HSE KPI tracking and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Expertise in ergonomics is considered a strong asset.
  • Relevant experience in occupational health and safety within a manufacturing or industrial environment, including significant experience in ergonomic assessments and workstation optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of Root Cause Analysis methodologies (RCA, 5 Whys, Ishikawa/Fishbone) and continuous improvement tools (Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical, sustainable, and measurable solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (Engineering, Operations, HSE, Human Resources) in a unionized environment.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, technical presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and analytical software (e.g., advanced Excel, ergonomic assessment tools, HSE management software).
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards is an asset.
