The City of Raleigh Human Resources Department has an immediate opening for a Health, Safety, and Worker’s Compensation Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Safety Manager to make a meaningful impact across the organization by leading health, safety, and workers’ compensation initiatives. You’ll shape strategy, strengthen incident prevention, enhance existing safety programs, and build new ones! You’ll lead a team of people who are committed to serving our employees and you’ll partner with safety professionals across the City to make a real difference. You’re passionate about safety and believe preparation and prevention are key to building a strong safety-first culture. You take a proactive, strategic approach to health, safety, and workers’ compensation, using data to spot trends, identify risks, and recommend ways to improve results. You’re a strong and respectful communicator who can turn insights into action and who can collaborate with others to create safer workplaces.
You’re also detail-oriented and committed to doing things the right way. You understand the importance of staying current with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, including OSHA, DOT, workers’ compensation requirements, and other federal, state, and local requirements.
The Health, Safety, and Workers Compensation Division within the HR Department serves over 7,000 employees. The team’s primary goal is to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities; while also attempting to prevent the suffering and financial hardship these events can cause workers, their families, and home departments. The team monitors health and safety trends; while investigating, analyzing, evaluating, and administering our Enterprise-wide Health and Safety program.
Positions in this class typicallyrequire:stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing,seeingand repetitive motions.
Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment.Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic), in aconfined space, using a vehicle, in a warehouse environment, and/or a shop environment.
WorkExposures: Employees may occasionally interact withIndividuals who are hostile or irate,extreme cold (below 32 degrees),extreme heat (above 100 degrees),moving mechanical parts,fumes or airborne particles,toxic or caustic chemicals or substances, and/orloud noises (85+ decibels average over 8-hour working day such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction).
