Job Description

Are you a Health, Safety and Wellbeing professional ready to make a genuine impact at a national level? We are looking for an experienced Manager to play a pivotal role in fostering a proactive health and safety culture across the firm, underpinned by a deep understanding of WHS legislation and the evolving regulatory landscape.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Wellbeing and People Experience, this role offers the opportunity to shape the firm's approach to health, safety and wellbeing at a strategic level.

You will provide expert advice on legislative and regulatory obligations across all Australian jurisdictions while building progressive and innovative WHS strategies with an emphasis on value-added preventative programs that go beyond compliance.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead across a broad and rewarding remit. You will:

  • Monitor and interpret legislative and regulatory developments at Commonwealth, state and territory level, advising the business on practical implications and required actions.
  • Review, improve and implement the firm's WHS policies, procedures, risk registers and safe work practices to ensure they remain current, practical and compliant across all jurisdictions.
  • Identify, assess and manage psychosocial hazards and risks in accordance with applicable regulations and codes of practice, developing prevention strategies for new and emerging risks.
  • Conduct risk assessments and incident analysis, taking corrective action to address key issues.
  • Manage salary continuance and workers compensation claims, liaising with employees, internal stakeholders, and external insurance and rehabilitation providers.
  • Lead the firm's return-to-work approach, collaborating with employees, leaders and People and Development colleagues on best practice injury and claims management.
  • Analyse WHS data and trends to inform strategy, and prepare regular reports and communication for Board, executive and operational stakeholders.
  • Design and manage a range of proactive health, safety and wellbeing initiatives and programs. This includes working closely with the National Mental Health Manager on psychological/psychosocial health and safety.
  • Manage relationships with a range of external health providers, insurers and brokers.

About you

We are looking for a driven, resilient professional with sharp attention to detail and a genuine commitment to supporting others.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Comprehensive, current knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice and workers compensation legislation across Australian jurisdictions, with demonstrated experience interpreting and applying these requirements.
  • Strong experience in identifying, assessing and managing psychosocial risks in the workplace.
  • Experience in ergonomics, rehabilitation, return-to-work and claims management, ideally gained in a professional services organisation.
  • Strong working knowledge of WHS management systems.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to translate complex WHS data into clear, actionable insights for Board and senior leadership audiences.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.

About Clayton Utz

We are one of Australia's oldest and largest law firms, with offices in six cities, nearly 200 partners, and a full range of legal services for large private sector and government clients.

But we're more interested in talking about you, and with you.

It's why, wherever you are, we give you advice that connects with you. Advice that isn't just a one-size-fits-all solution taken off a shelf, but that reflects who you are, and what you need. Advice created by lawyers with different experiences and different views, but united by an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude, confidence in each other, and pride in helping you achieve.

As you might have noticed, we like speaking plainly. While we like thinking creatively to help you, we won't give you an answer hidden by legal jargon, or that doesn't reflect our honest opinion. Our clients value that, and trust us with their most important work. And we work hard to deserve that trust.
