He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team is excited to offer a permanent full-time opportunity to join our close-knit team as an Advisor – Injury Management. This is a hybrid role ( 3x days in the office) are based in the Auckland CBD, with travel required throughout the region You’ll be part of a high‑trust environment that supports flexibility, autonomy, and accountability.

This role supports Auckland Council kaimahi to recover from work related or non – work related injuries, coordinating rehabilitation programmes, and enabling safe, timely, and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.

You'll manage a portfolio of cases, providing injury management advice and coordinating tailored rehabilitation plans and return-to-work plans in partnership with injured kaimahi, people leaders, healthcare providers, Auckland Council's Third Party Administrator (TPA), and other key stakeholders.

The remuneration range for these roles are $105, 579 - $111, 789 depending on experience and skillset.

Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities

You'll build strong partnerships with kaimahi, people leaders, healthcare providers, and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated rehabilitation support and sustainable return-to-work outcomes.

As the first point of contact for injury management enquiries, you'll provide practical advice and guidance to kaimahi, leaders, and stakeholders, ensuring a consistent and people-centred approach to recovery and rehabilitation.

You'll support internal and external audit activities to maintain compliance with injury management and rehabilitation programme requirements. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices, and provide operational and administrative support to the Senior Injury Management Advisor as required.

Day to day you can expect to work on:

  • Manage a portfolio of injury and illness rehabilitation cases, supporting kaimahi to achieve safe, sustainable, and successful return-to-work outcomes.
  • Coordinate and monitor rehabilitation and return-to-work plans in partnership with kaimahi, people leaders, treatment providers, and Auckland Council's Third Party Administrator (TPA).
  • Review and interpret medical information, treatment recommendations, and work capacity assessments to inform rehabilitation planning.
  • Support the identification and management of complex cases, escalating matters to the Senior Injury Management Advisor and seeking guidance where appropriate.
  • Apply working knowledge of the Injury Accident Compensation Act 2001 and its application for both cover and entitlement decisions.
  • Deliver education and training to leaders and stakeholders to build capability and understanding of injury management and return-to-work practices.

You are an empathetic injury management professional with who enjoys supporting people through recovery and helping them thrive. You enjoy empowering others to achieve positive outcomes by using a range of resources, and tools to support their rehabilitation and successful return to work.

You are highly organised and can confidently manage a diverse caseload and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Your attention to detail, strong record-keeping skills, and ability to maintain accurate documentation will ensure high-quality case management.

You can effectively prioritise your workload and navigate complexity daily. With strong analytical skills, you can assess complex information, identify key issues, and make informed decisions using sound judgement.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in an injury case management environment (ACC or TPA).
  • A minimum of 2 years’ demonstratable experience in similar role.
  • Sound understanding of Te Ao Māori, with the ability to apply te reo Māori, and tikanga
  • Previous experience with cultivating and maintaining strong relationships across diverse and varied stakeholders
