Health Safety and Sustainability Engineer
The HS&S Engineer is responsible for the effective implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Environment, and Sustainability (HSE&S) programs within Site operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable legal, corporate, and international standards while actively supporting safe operations, environmental stewardship, and sustainability objectives.
Acting as the critical link between leadership, the workforce, and contractors, and third‑party logistics providers, the HSE&S Engineer drives risk reduction, incident prevention, and cultural maturity through proactive engagement, technical expertise, and disciplined execution.
Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety walks, and risk assessments.
Lead or support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs/JHAs) and task-based risk evaluations.
Ensure implementation and verification of safe work permits.
Monitor contractor safety performance and enforce site safety rules.
Support ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and occupational health initiatives.
Actively promote near miss and hazard reporting - CSJ.
Support incident and accident investigations.
Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
Support sustainability programs related to energy, water, emissions, and waste reduction.
Coach supervisors and frontline employees on safe behaviors and procedures.
Support safety culture improvement initiatives and campaigns.
Participate in internal and external HS&S audits and inspections.
Track and report key HS&S KPIs and trends.
Support emergency response planning and drills.
Act as a site emergency response coordinator when required.
Ensure availability and readiness of emergency equipment.
Identify opportunities to improve HS&S systems and controls.
Workers Compensation Claims follow-up.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical, or related discipline)
Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and compliance requirements (including BATF&E as a plus).
Experience implementing and auditing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
Proficiency in hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident prevention, investigation, and corrective actions.
Demonstrated ability in operational safety execution, emergency preparedness, and response planning.
Skilled in HSE data management, reporting, and use of Microsoft applications and digital tools.
Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and supporting safety programs in logistics or facility environments.
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and remote teams.
