
POSITION TITLE: Health Room Aide
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Health Services - Nursing
STATUS: Classified – Non-Exempt, Full Time -Olathe East High School
HOURS OF WORK/CALENDAR: 7.5 hrs per day / 171 days
This position is responsible for providing support to the school site
HOURLY: $15.50 per hour
operations with specific responsibilities for assisting in the administration of first aid and dispensing prescribed medications under the direction of a health care professional; coordinating with other personnel in supporting students with special needs; documenting activities in accordance with established guidelines and/or regulatory requirements; and assisting health care professionals in scheduling prescribed health screenings and services. This position is part of the Health Services team and reports to the School Nurse.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the school nurse in the care of sick and injured students and staff for the purpose of ensuring their safety and wellness.
Communicates with school nurse in a timely manner related to care delivery and assignments.
Administers medication as delegated and/or assigned for the purpose of ensuring the proper dosage and application of medicines.
Assists students with special needs with daily living functions as needed and/or assigned (e.g. toileting, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety of assigned students while complying with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
Cleans work areas for the purpose of providing a safe, clean and attractive working and learning environment.
Communicates with a variety of individuals (e.g. students, staff, parents, visitors, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying needed information.
Conducts inventories and restocking of health room supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items when needed.
Assists with health room record keeping (e.g, quarterly reports, recoding of immunization records) for the purpose of recording and providing needed information as required.
Performs a variety of clerical duties (e.g, establishes student health folders, data entry, general record keeping, use of standard office equipment, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in the completion of assigned work activities.
Documents their student-care actions in health room documentation system (SIS).
Delivers care to students and staff in the absence of the nurse.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Job related experience is desired.
High School diploma or equivalent is required.

High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality
Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and Student Information System
Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires the performance of medium work— exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects including lifting materials and equipment. The position requires close visual acuity to perform functions such as but not limited to reading, computer work and data analysis. This position generally involves viewing a computer screen about 50 percent of the time. The position includes frequent lifting, standing, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, climbing, balancing, walking, talking, hearing, grasping and repetitive motion, occasional reaching, feeling, stooping, kneeling, standing, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in generally hazard free environment and a clean atmosphere.
