Health Physics Surveyor (Based in France)

Location: Valduc (45 minutes outside of Dijon, France)

Package: £26,553 plus allowances (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

AWE have an exciting opportunity to work as a Health Physics Surveyor in a World-Class Facility in the French Countryside.

This role is to support a joint UK/French Radiographic and Hydrodynamics facility located 45 minutes from Dijon in France. The Health Physics Surveyor is one of the positions permanently based on the project in France for up to 5 years supporting the project.

EPURE is a groundbreaking facility, the first of its kind worldwide, and this is your chance to collaborate with our esteemed French colleagues and be part of something extraordinary! You would be based in France to deliver the radiological protection support for the project to ensure delivery of the Programme.

Who are we looking for?

This position is open for both experienced Health Physics Surveyors and people looking for a change of career. Full training and development will be given.

Experienced Health Physics personnel will be required to hold a certificate of completion of the Health Physics Apprenticeship or have either the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Radiation Protection or City & Guilds Radiation Safety Stage 1 qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and apply company safety and security requirements
  • Carry out workplace radiological monitoring including air sampling and surface beryllium sampling
  • Change regulatory air samples and the completion of associated paperwork
  • Operate and function test various radiological monitoring equipment
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant procedures and instructions
  • Provide practical radiological monitoring support where competent to do so
  • Provide emergency response support
  • Remain competent to carry out the role of health physics surveyor including emergency response
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding – technical, professional, safety, security, business and company
  • The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs

Special Requirements for this role:

In order to obtain the required security for these roles you will need to be 18 years of age or over.

These roles require personnel to be registered as Classified Radiation Workers, under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.

Fitness will be assessed at a Level 1 pre-employment medical held at AWE-NST UK which follows the initial selection process, the assessment will include but not be limited to:

  • Ensuring candidates meet all the medical requirements of the role and have a suitable level of fitness to wear appropriate Personnel Protection Equipment (PPE) and a negative pressure respirator (C50 or equivalent) – the role may also require other forms of RPE to be worn to undertake their duties
  • Candidates should be aware that one the key requirements for ascertaining the fitness level relates to Body Mass Index (BMI). Candidates for the role of Health Physics Surveyor must have a BMI of less than 35
  • The fitness for working in other types of hazardous environs e.g. explosive, toxic
  • Candidates must have a Full Driving Licence
  • Candidates may be required to work a shift pattern

All candidates must be willing and able to:

  • Operate in workplaces of substantial hazard (radiological, explosive, toxic)
  • Comfortable with working in the defence industry in support of the UK nuclear deterrent
  • Willing to relocate to France and live within 1 hour of the Valduc site and be permanently located in France for up to 5 years
  • Communicate in the French Language for this role. Training will be provided, but it should be recognised that significant personal commitment and self-study will be required to reach the required level which is DELF A2
