Mater is embarking on an exciting new era of growth and transformation and is seeking an experienced Health Information Manager to join our Gold Coast team.

We are preparing to welcome Gold Coast Private Hospital into the Mater network—an important milestone that will strengthen our ability to serve communities across the state.

The acquisition process of the Gold Coast hospital is expected to complete in mid-2026.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

You will deliver efficient and accurate coding for all patient discharges, and assist the site in medical record management, data reporting, and related activities to ensure an industry leading customer service experience.

  • Lead health records and coding operations, overseeing daily workload, staffing and service delivery to ensure accuracy, timeliness and efficiency.
  • Deliver high-quality clinical coding services, ensuring accurate assignment of ICD-10-AM codes and complete, compliant data capture to support casemix funding and reporting.
  • Manage patient information and records systems, including release of information, data quality, and compliance with privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • Support revenue optimisation and reporting, contributing to the integrity of casemix data and ensuring accurate input into reporting systems.
  • Drive quality, safety and compliance, participating in audits, accreditation activities and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with national standards.
  • Provide expert advice and education to clinical and non-clinical stakeholders on coding, documentation, casemix and revenue implications.
  • Foster a high-performing team culture, supporting capability development, training and mentoring of staff.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues, implementing process improvements to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with clinical governance and leadership teams to leverage data insights that improve patient care outcomes.
  • Contribute to financial and workforce planning, including budgeting, resourcing and service development for coding and health information functions.

About you

You will have a Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent) and 5+ years’ experience in health records and clinical coding (ICD-10-AM)

  • Proven leadership experience managing teams in a hospital environment
  • Strong knowledge of privacy, compliance, and healthcare regulations
  • Experience in audits, accreditation, and coding quality improvement
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills

Desirable: WebPAS, Codefinder, private hospital experience, knowledge of health fund contracting

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
