Represents the Division of Community Health Services in countywide health education, health promotion and risk reduction programs. The Health Educator – Health Literacy Specialist advances health literacy across Salt Lake County by helping residents, community organizations, healthcare systems, and Health Department programs access, understand, navigate, and use health information and services. This position leads health literacy strategies aligned with the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), provides technical assistance and training to healthcare and community partners, supports implementation of the Department’s Language Access Plan, and, in partnership with the Communications Department, strengthens the clarity, accessibility, and cultural and linguistic responsiveness of health communications. The position also develops and evaluates health literacy initiatives, supports quality improvement efforts, builds organizational health literacy capacity, and collaborates with internal and external partners to advance health equity and improve health outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Health Education/Promotion, Health Science, Public Health, Community Health, Health Communication, or Behavioral Science and Health with an emphasis in Health Education; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a county vehicle.
This hybrid position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, may require some weekends.
