Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for the coordination of the Tobacco Prevention Program. This position requires the ability to work independently and to work with both youth and adults to promote tobacco prevention throughout the community by attending meetings, events and trainings. This position requires travel for community outreach, events planning and participation. This is a tobacco-free position.

Incumbent uses knowledge of quality improvement (QI) methods and processes to work with other staff to help identify opportunities for improvement and develop a culture of quality within DOH (Department of Health) Wakulla; assists in improvement projects, as assigned.

  • Provides daily oversite to the Tobacco Prevention Program's workplan working with the Tobacco Prevention Program Manager. Supports statewide tobacco prevention and health promotion initiatives as directed.
  • Develops and submits a tobacco prevention work plan in Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS), focusing on prevention and intervention activities that will advocate for policy change.
  • Completes quarterly progress updates in ATACS.
  • Responsible for the development of local Students Working Against Tobacco chapter within the community, including transporting and chaperoning youth at meetings, events, trainings, and community events.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of the Tobacco Free Partnership. Coordinates and organizes local tobacco prevention community wide events and meetings.
  • Attends required conference calls, meetings, and trainings.
  • Serves as a resource to the community regarding tobacco prevention issues.
  • Promotes the Three Ways to Quit and refers community members to tobacco cessation services offered at the local level.
  • Promotes a tobacco-free lifestyle in the community.
  • Provides Daily Administrative Functions.
  • Attends monthly Employee Empowerment Committee (EEC) meetings and functions that support employee events and activities.
  • Purchases promotional items in Ariba on Demand (AOD) for events and planning. Follows the Tobacco Purchasing Agreement and prepares purchasing quotes and justifications as outlined within purchasing guidelines.
  • Provides support and planning to ensure the goals of DOH-Wakulla’s Community Health programs are achieved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tobacco prevention, chronic disease, risk factors, health education and health promotion practices.
  • Knowledge of the principle and practices of community-based health promotion planning and coalition-building skills.
  • Knowledge of Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS), Ariba on Demand (AOD) and Tobacco Purchasing Guidelines
  • Skilled in public speaking and teaching techniques; use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to plan, develop and deliver health promotion and public health education services; to collect and analyze data; to prepare reports; to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; to communicate effectively, both orally and written; to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to work independently on assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

Minimum - Valid Florida Driver's License required. Ability to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle as required bo Coalition. Ability and willing to work some nights and weekends as required. Ability to physically come in the office to perform duites and responsibilities of the position.

Preferred - Comfortable and skilled in public speaking/engaging community members in conversation. Experience networking with community partners to obtain common goals. Bachelors Degree.
